01About Folia and these terms
Folia helps you identify your plants, keep track of their care, share that care with the people you live with, and get reminders when your plants need attention. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
Folia is in early access with a small group of users. Features may change, and some screens are labelled as previews or mock-ups: they show ideas we’re working on and don’t do anything yet.
02Your account
You need an account to use Folia, and you must be at least 16 years old. Use an email address you control, keep your password private and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you sign in with Google, Google’s own terms also apply to that sign-in.
03Households
You can invite people you live with to your household. Everyone in a household can see, change and delete the household’s plants, rooms, photos, notes and care history, and can see each other’s names and profile photos. Only invite people you trust with that.
The household owner can remove members and is the only person who can clear all of the household’s plant data. If you leave a household, the plants stay with it.
04Friends
You can connect with friends in other households using a code. Friends see only the plants you share (one at a time, or all of them with “Share all my plants”), plus a plant that came from one of theirs or that they have a cutting of, unless you turn that off. They see those plants’ names, photos and milestones (flowering, roots showing, potted), and your profile name. They never see your rooms, schedules, notes, health checks or email.
Reactions and messages between friends come from fixed lists Folia provides, so nobody can send you their own words. You can remove or block a friend at any time without them being told, and report someone who misuses friendships; we review reports and may suspend accounts that break these terms.
05Using Folia fairly
- Use Folia to look after your plants and keep your own plant records.
- Don’t try to access other people’s accounts or households, or to disrupt, overload or reverse-engineer the service.
- Don’t upload anything unlawful, or photos of other people, their homes or their belongings that you don’t have the right to share.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
06Photos
Photos can show more than your plant. Faces, documents, screens or anything that identifies your home may be in the background, and identification photos are sent to Plant.id. Frame the plant and check the background before you take it.
Photos you add to a plant are visible to everyone in your household. Photos you use for identification or a health check are sent to our identification partner (see the Privacy Policy).
07Plant information is guidance, not advice
Plant identification and health checks are automated suggestions and can be wrong. Care schedules, seasonal adjustments, watering suggestions, light, toxicity and treatment information come from automated tools and third-party sources and are general guidance only. They are not veterinary, medical or professional horticultural advice. Treatments, including any chemical product, should be used as their label says.
If a pet or person may have eaten a plant, contact a vet, doctor or poison control service straight away. To the extent the law allows, Folia is not liable for losses that come from relying on this information, including the health of your plants or pets.
08Free and Premium
Folia is free to use, with some limits (for example, up to 10 plants per household and 10 photos per plant). Premium removes those limits and adds features such as health checks, which cost us money to run. Premium can’t be bought in the app yet; when it can, the price and terms will be shown before you pay.
Some features have fair-use limits, such as a number of health checks per day.
09Your content
Your photos, notes and plant records belong to you. You give us permission to store and process them only so we can run Folia for you and your household. That includes showing them to you and your household, scheduling reminders and sending photos you choose to identify or check to our identification partner.
You can export your data at any time (More → Account → Data & Privacy). When you delete content, clear your plant data or delete your account, we delete it as described in the Privacy Policy.
10Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep Folia running, but it may sometimes be unavailable, and features may be added, changed or removed. If we ever shut Folia down, we will give you reasonable notice so you can export your information.
11Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in More → Account → Data & Privacy. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other users or the service at risk.
12Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll ask you to accept the new version in the app before you carry on using Folia.
13Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep any rights your local law gives you.
